Gentlemen:

\JI am enclosing a form SR 1 report on an accident that occurred on April 14
1977 on Highway 101 north and west of Santa Barbara.   Officers from the
Santa Barbara Highway Patrol arrived almost immediately and a complete
reporting was made to them.

We were stopped in traffic, and in fact all three lanes were stopped, when
we hit in the rear by a car owned and operated by Rogelio and Marie
Pulido.  The force of the impact drove us into the car in front and as a
result the front of our car was also damaged but not to the same extent as
the rear.   My wife and I both received slight "whip-lash" neck injuries which
are already on the mend.

Mrs. Pulido called us yesterday evening and they are accepting full
responsibility for the accident.   They were not covered by insurance but
they have volunteered to try to repay us for the cost of repairing
our car.   They told me that they had also agreed to reimburse the owner of
the car that was in front of us, which was only slightly damaged.

At the time of the accident we thought that we were covered by an insurance
policy number 73335126-04 with the Colonial Penn Insurance Co.  and so
reported this to the officer and to Brown Brothers Adjusters which handles
claims in this area.   Subsequent checking revealed the fact that we had
somehow failed to receive a renewal notice or a cancellation notice and
that our policy had lapsed.

We have rectified this omission and we are again fully covered, but of
course this coverage was not in effect on April 14th at the time of the
accident.   This renewed coverage was obtained yesterday April 20 to
become effective this morning.   We do not yet have the policy number, but
we will send it to you as soon as we are informed if you wish this
information for your files.\.
